carplay Originally unveiled in 2013, Apple has re-branded and officially announced CarPlay, an initiative to integrate Apple features into the car. The initiative is the equivalent to Apple's AirPlay. The unveiling was announced at the Geneva International Motor Show, and will first be compatible with Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo. For Apple, safetly was a high priority when integrating the dashboard system. Carplay does not appear to have virtual keyboard, ancarplay 2d has minimal interface elements to ensure that it will not distract drivers. With that said, here are a few of the elements car owners can look forward to:
  • System run directly from iPhone 5, 5s or 5c. iOS software is not run by the car
  • Integrated Siri Technology - Access to contacts and voicemail, make phone calls, reads messages and responds to voice commands
  • Integrates iTunes, will also work with Spotify and iHeartRadio apps
  • Apple maps a key feature
While the system will first be integrated with just a few automobile companies, they have plans to partner with a list of car companies in the very near futures. A few that can look forward to the system include Kia Motos, Ford, BMW, Jaguar Land Rover, PSA Peugeot Citroën, and Toyota. Information courtesy of: Apple.com, cnet.com, theguardian.com
